Sacramento was home to the Maidu, Nisenan, and other indigenous people for thousands of years before the invasion by the Spanish, who named the city after the Catholic sacrament of the Eucharist. The area is known as the City of Trees thanks to its abundance of foliage, and it holds the title of the sunniest location on the planet for three months each year, from July to September.

Our 3D wood map begins with a bathymetric chart showcasing the water’s depth and the topography of the surrounding area. Next, an artist uses Baltic birch wood cut into exact layers to form the precise outline of the city and its snaking river. The layers are glued together, and the river is hand-stained for added depth. Finally, significant points of interest, roads, and landmarks are etched into the wood chart’s surface before the piece is finished with a custom solid wood frame.

Fall in love with Sacramento, California more and more every day with this 3D beautiful wood map.
